This was to be yet another Gonzo mission and an entire album of coverage, but it ended up being a failure nearing epical
proportions.
I intended to cover a monster truck show by looking for interesting camera angles around the
venue, shooting vehicles and staff, capturing how it all clicks together and is ready to go by the time the show begins.
I figured I'd
then pay the 17euro
entry fee, take some action shots inside the isolated area and basically see the show. Although frankly seeing
tractors on two wheels weren't all that interesting to me, as I see a lot of them in country side, although hardly ever in motion. What I really
care about is the people and planning behind the scenes and the off-chance something doesn't go according to plan.
However.
One stubby green security vest and iron cross wearing aufseherin single-handedly shattered all these photogenic dreams after no more than ten frames. According to her,
nothing was allowed without her consent. Can't shoot that, can't shoot me, can't
shoot video of me shouting at you hysterically. She didn't understand the concept of public places and that us both actually had equal rights
outside the venue. She insisted pictures I took were to be inspected by her and if necessary deleted, when in fact even the police aren't allowed to
do that without a court order as this not north Korea. She actually argued with a professional photographer about rights and freedom of expression.
When she realized she couldn't justify any of it or win the debate, she pulled my camera strap so hard it left a mark on my arm. Finally she
did
what I would've punched a guy in the face for; she touched my camera without permission. With conflicting personal guidelines, one saying hit the
attacker and the other not to hit women, I had no option but to run. No album is worth this aggravation.
So enjoy, my single monster truck picture from this event taken the night after and then miss Audi herself. Not only did she lose a paying
customer,
she also lost free publicity for the show and gained some herself.
A short and grainy video from my cellphone, but you get the idea.
